The Gateway Dynamite Shoot is our Fire Department's fund raiser and is scheduled to take place next on October 4, 2008. At this event you can test your shooting skills as you take aim at sticks of real dynamite that are placed from 100 to 830 yards down range!

IMPORTANT WORDS ABOUT MUZZLE BREAKS
We have decided that muzzle breaks WILL be allowed at our events. There had been discussion about banning them but our organizers have decided that these will, in fact, be allowed. Thank you all for your input on this topic!

HOW THIS EVENT WORKS:
Each shooter gets 2 shots at a given target. If the target is hit it will explode and the shooter splits the pot for that target with our Fire Department. If they miss, they get back in line.

REGARDLESS OF THE DISTANCE TO THE TARGET, EACH TARGET IS A SINGLE POP CAN FILLED WITH EXPLOSIVES. THUS, FROM 100 YARDS TO 830+ YARDS EACH OF THESE TARGETS IS EXACTLY THE SAME SIZE AND CARRIES THE SAME EXPLOSIVE PUNCH. WE HAVE NEVER RETRIEVED A TARGET THAT DID NOT EXPLODE. IF A BULLET HITS THE POP CAN THE TARGET WILL EXPLODE.

Iron sights, pistol, running deer, hunting rifle, black powder and long range shooters are all welcome. The event draws top shooters from many states and is sure to be worth the drive for everyone. This is one of the few Dynamite Shoots left in the Country and is a safe, controlled, drug and alcohol-free event.
Long Distance Rifle Ranges

Above is a photo of the long distance rifle range. The target areas have been colored in this photo to show the ranges. Note the yellow targets in the lower right corner show the furthest of the Hunter Bench Rest range (350 - 430 yards) the green targets in the middle show the Bench Rest Unlimited Rifle Range (550 - 610 yards) and the pink targets near the center represent the Big Dog range (775 - 830 yards). All dynamite targets are the same size at our event...they are simply a soda pop can filled with explosives. The photograph (above) shows their location...obviously at these distances they are not this easy to see! Note too that this image shows their approximate location and disbursement. Also the Hunter Bench Rest range continues to off the image to the right and down.

This event draws top shooters from many states. We have regular shooters who attend from Colorado, Texas, California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah to name but a few. At our most recent shoot these skilled shooters won a combined total of over $5,000 in cash prizes!

This event welcomes participants and curiosity seekers. Ear protection is encouraged!

All shooters age 14 and under must have adult supervision and a current Hunter Safety Card.

Our volunteers work hard to keep things safe and organized!

We also have a great pistol shoot range. Come and test your skills against other top shooters!

Food, Souvenirs and Community Events will also be available. Plenty of parking and, hopefully, sunny weather!

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN HELD IN GATEWAY FOR OVER 40 YEARS. IN THAT TIME WE HAVE ONLY HAD 2 CANCELLATIONS DUE TO BAD WEATHER.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From the Grand Junction Area: Take Rt. 50 to Whitewater. Turn S.W. on Colorado Rt. 141. Drive 43 miles to Gateway. The shoot is behind the Community Center near Mile Post 111.
